I didn’t wait to deviate from the norm of these posts. I really didn’t. But once every blue moon (mmm, good beer) a specialty product comes along that absolutely sweeps you off your feet. Be warned, this is not remotely healthy and is a game changer.
You salivate thinking about it. Wonder how you ever lived without it. And curse yourself for not buying out the entire supply while it is still in stock.
Today, we’re talking about Cookie Butter.
What is it?
Cookie butter is a dangerous mix of speculoos (a type of cookie), combined with oil and more sugar. Not exactly a health food, but well worth the splurge if you are in the market for a treat. My jar hails from Trader Joe’s but I know that there are other versions out there. The product originated in Belgium and is in the midst of a lawsuit over patents because everyone wants a lick (food pun alert!).
Is it good for me?
In a word, no. Like typical nut butters (calling it that is definitely a stretch) this product is high in fat and calories. That said, considering how sweet it tastes, I was surprised to learn that there is just 5 grams of sugars per serving.
What does it taste like?
Happiness? In all seriousness, it tastes like gingerbread cookies crushed up in peanut butter. And although I just opened the jar last night, it is safe to say that it will taste good on just about anything. I prefer sweet oatmeal so I grabbed a (small) spoonful to top my breakfast this morning.
So there you have it. I just dedicated an entire post to cookie butter. It is worth it, as I anticipate I will be writing a lot more about this little gem in the future. Initially, I hesitated purchasing Cookie Butter given my past, but I think that a little bit of this goes a long way so hopefully it will not get too out of control. So now, tell me…
Have you ever tried anything like this?
