Three Things Thursday

1. A big hello to any new readers out there! Thank you for stopping by!

To the other loyal 10 readers, thanks for coming back and here is the low-down on what is going on. Yesterday I was featured on the Washingtonian’s Well Being Blog. I had no idea that it was happening until Twitter and Facebook blew up and I checked in on my little blog. I was beyond excited. My co-workers must think I am a little nutty.

So to all you new folks, Knack for Nutrition is where I ramble about working out at crazy weird hours, training for a half-marathon, trying to lose weight, and my deep seeded hatred of the metro. Welcome :)

2. Last night, in celebration of a big day of weight loss and being featured in the Washingtonian’s blog, I went to Guapo’s in Shirlington for dinner. The irony of frequenting a Mexican restaurant to celebrate a weight loss is not lost on me. But I know that one meal does not make or break you. It’s every other decision you make throughout the day that add up to big changes.

To be fair, I had a salad. It was just that I was too busy munching on chips before it came to save my appetite for the healthy portion of the meal. Oh chips and guacamole, you get me every time.

I’m not fretting about it. I packed my lunch and laid out my gym clothes once I got home to make sure the damage wasn’t permanent.

3. On a completely unrelated note, I need to find a new author. You see, a couple of months ago I stumbled upon Philippa Gregory’s historical fiction novels and never looked back. I blew through no less than 15 books while commuting, trying to sleep, and ignoring chores.

My bookshelf is filling out nicely, but there is room for more. I am on my final book and I am ready for a “can’t put down” novel that leaves me praying for a sequel. Historical fiction is my favorite but I am certainly open minded. Anything to help pass the time on the metro!

Question: What are you currently reading?

Hi – I have been reading a long time but never a commenter :) I love that I can come here, see my struggles mirrored and leave feeling that I am that little bit less alone in what I am doing – but know in essence I am doing all the right things. Thanks!

I totally agree on how you moved on from over eating chips… make sure the next meal is better and prepare ahead to move your body more. I follow the same rules.

On reading – have your tried the historical series “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon?

I finished book 5 before Christmas, and have yet to buy off Amazon the next one. I can tell you that I am missing the main characters so much – I feel like I am a part of them.

    Keep up the good work.

      Hi Lea,

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. I always like to know who is reading. :)

The good news about Mexican food is that it keeps you full forever so this AM hasn’t been too much of a struggle to get back on track haha.

I am so excited about your reading suggestion. It sounds right up my alley! Which one was your favorite? I need to check them out!

      Thanks again!

The books are a series, and the story starts up again where the last one finishes off. Totally leaves you wanting more.

They are about 900 pages long, so they are good value – not only for money but for really feeling like your are stuck in a good book for ages.
I have bought mine all for my Kindle, so it does make it easier to carry round such a large book.

Amazingly the first one was written about 20yrs ago, and I just happened (2years ago) to hear a snippet of a radio broadcast with Diana reading a section of her latest book – Book 6. I was hooked from that.
The following she has is huge, websites and clubs etc. and there are plenty of small ‘filler’ books that fill in details not covered in the large books.
        So.much.reading!

Hope you enjoy them as much as I have!

Shoutout to new readers? Shoutout to NEW READERS? This is BS! What about old readers? What about us?

I’m reading the last Game of Thrones book v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y because I know the next one hasn’t been published yet.

Listen Mr. Sh*t, my little blog needs all the help it can get. New people are always welcome! Simmer! ha!

Everyone keeps talking about Game of Thrones. I tried to watch an episode of the show but just couldn’t get into it. Perhaps I will just have to try again.

Have you read Sarah’s Key yet? Or Virgin Blue? I think you might like those. The chapters alternate between present day and the past and I blew through both of them.

Its not fiction, but I just read Devil in the White City, about a serial killer in the midst of the World Fair in Chicago. It didn’t get to the I-can’t-put-this-down phase til halfway through, but I’d still recommend it!

Love Philippa Gregory books. Was quite distraught how they butchered the Other Boleyn Girl movie. Twas terrible! :-)
