Hi Everyone! I’m alive! Apologies for the radio silence but when your life is nothing more than boxes and chaos blogging falls by the wayside. That said, the last few days have been a complete whirlwind and I am eager to get caught up, settle in, and figure out a new routine.
I spent my final days in DC attached to my roommate’s hip. We went to FreeFest, a large outdoor music festival, where it proceeded to rain on us for 8 hours straight. The jackets in the picture below were no match for the downpour.
I also had one last brunch with my favorite old co-workers. Alexe made us a delicious spread of fritatta, rosemary potatoes, and bacon. That girl can whip up a mean meal!
Later that evening I drove to Union Station to pick up my dad for our big adventure!
We hit the ground running once I scooped him up from the train station. I treated him to his first EVER Chipotle experience before tearing apart all my precious Ikea furniture.
By the end of the night my cozy room was a shell of its former self.
After a restless night’s sleep on the couch (um, my roommate slept in the family room too so we could have a sleepover of sorts. Our coolness knows no bounds) we woke up bright and early to pick up the Uhaul.
The next two hours were spent loading boxes, tables, the dresser, and every other heavy thing one needs to make a cozy bedroom. By mid-morning the scene looked something like this:
We took little time to revel in our accomplishment as we still had a long day ahead of us! We hit the road for the 4 hour trek to Pittsburgh with me in my little car and my dad in the Uhaul.
We arrived in Pittsburgh around 4PM and were greeted by my mom, sister, and her fiancé. With their help, what took 2+ hours to load was emptied in 40 minutes. I was SO grateful for their help.
Although I neglected to photograph the chaos, I can assure you it was pretty bad. I got really overwhelmed at several points because my stuff was everywhere! My Smutha Mutha gave me some good pep talks throughout the night and I managed to find a home for everything.
So now we are to the fun part…the after! Most things are set up how we want them but we have a bit more furniture to buy and I am still on the hunt for a permanent desk.
The return of my beautiful dining room table!
And the family room.
I do not know what I would have done without my dad. From coming to DC to help me pack, driving the Uhaul, and helping Josh build all the furniture so I could feel settled, he really is my knight and shining armor!
Love that guy!
So here we are two days later. I have my work station all set up and successfully completed day 1 as a remote employee. It’s definitely an adjustment and there are still a lot of nuances to figure out but I think it is all going to be okay.
At least I have good company. Gatsby says hi!
I will be back soon with more pictures, and a day to day look at life in Pittsburgh!
